Hey there, Jungle Aces! For several weeks now, I’ve tried to concoct a logical reason behind going to bat for a cartoon series that seemingly has been overlooked and dismissed for twenty years now. I’m abandoning that direction in favor of simply giving it to you from my heart. I’ve gone on since I first became aware of the TaleSpin fandom five years ago about the show in general and about one component especially, a component which has gone to my heart and somehow made a difference the way few things of its kind can, a cartoon which has gone to my heart and soul with something that not many series have…a heart and a soul. A vital component to this series had grabbed a hold of me when I first started watching it back in 1991 and has not let me go to this day. Something about it has stayed with me all these years and I’m at the age where, if I’d care about a cartoon at all…it wouldn’t be this one. Why? We’ve gone back-and-forth like a tennis match about how we’d like to see a third volume of TaleSpin come out on DVD and come full-circle with the original series. Should they bring the series back and make new episodes and add continuity to the development of the characters? That’d be nice, although I must admit, it’d also be unlikely. Some have stated that many of the fans who thought TaleSpin was a good show then don’t seem to care now. They’ve moved on, and I’m still here boosting a twenty-year-old cartoon in the same fanatical way I, a forty-something man, should be doing for the Philadelphia Phillies. Why on earth am I doing this? Maybe, I need to see a psychiatrist? Maybe, a reason would be that I see something in this series like I haven’t seen much of before or since on television. Maybe, there’s a special component, even one component, that got my attention and made me look at a contemporary (for 1991) cartoon and made me change my outlook, not just on television cartoons, but on my personal consciousness as well. To me, and probably to you as well, that one vital component takes the form of a big, little, wonderful something that can be summed up in three letters… K-I-T. Something about this character made an impact on us…at least at one time in our lives, this character made an impact on us…in a way that no other character, animated or live-action, ever could. He is a character who has seen the soft, white, underbelly of life at a time of extremely tough economic conditions. He’s known hunger, homelessness…and hopelessness. With the care and support of a cargo pilot, his life turned around from seeming like a dead-end street, to where the open skies are his personal playground. He is a sky-surfing wunderkind whose antics with a metallic board have made many people look up in wonder and even some of them have panic attacks! A character like this has offered so much in the past and he’s got a lot more to him besides. At this point, I’m not entirely concerned about whether to bring back TaleSpin in any form. Now, I realize that might go against the grain to some. My primary concern is this character…this one vital component…Kit Cloudkicker. What he’s done before and what he can do in the future can get the attention of new fans for Disney, if they only wish him to. Kit is my primary concern…bordering on becoming my exclusive concern. There’s a lot a character like this can still teach us about reaching for a star and hitching a tow-rope to it…and just fly, boy, fly! There’s so much he can teach us in the realm of social responsibility and making a difference in our own lives, and in the lives of others. Take another look at those old TaleSpin cartoons and just follow Kit and what he says and does to help someone else. From helping a seemingly hopeless cause like Oscar Vandersnoot join the Jungle Aces…to helping his Papa Bear come to terms with himself and just who he is in the eyes of this brave little bear cub. In my mind’s eyes and heart…it’s all about K-I-T, Kit Cloudkicker. Whatever else happens in Disney’s Corporate Realm, my hope remains that one board member will ask: Ladies and Gentlemen, may I propose a new project with this character, Kit…um…whatshisname again…oh, yes…Cloudkicker! May I propose this new idea for this character? It’d go something like this…” With eyes on the skies, and heart on the future, Tom CloudkickerTom I could not agree more and lol no you don't need a srink. No Kit is the reasion for us all being here and for us creating so many new memoreies trough art and writing. Kit is the heart and soul of our fandom Yes Baloo may have been the star In Talespin But you know Kit was a star too and As you may have seen with what Kc5 and I have been writing we're really showing Kit more as the star Yes Baloo may be the main Star But Kit was just as much The main star to and when we as fans and writers Like My adopted Brother and me take Kit and Give him the star role and main focuse for an episode or a fan story to hopfuly be an episode that can really touch your heart. Tom my friend you didn't just make a post here you made a statement of how one charater has ment so much to you and to us all. and I personally think thats the most heartfelt thing ever. Once I get the Stormy Weather re-rant up; I'll do my own thoughts on the importance of Kit Cloudkicker. I'm always in the mood to explain the mystique of the miracle worker himself.
Since some have already started on elements; I have a starter's guide to TaleSpin character elementals:
Kit Cloudkicker - Majority wind element for sure. Although he has a touch of half darkness/half light with the moral decision he often makes in the series. He is basically the flying Pokemon. Baloo - Half Water (goes with the flow)/Half Fire (can be hot tempered) Rebecca - Mostly Earth (grounded in reality) with a touch of fire. Molly - Half Wind/Half Fire (She's a spitfire and very reckless) WildCat - Basically the shows answer to Heart from Captain Planet. Louie - Half Water/Half Earth (He goes with the flow; but is more inclinced to reel it in. Don Karnage - Half Wind/Half Darkness Shere Khan - Half Earth/Half Darkness
Anyone want to add anything to this?

Here's the Epilogue of TaleSpin: gregory-weagle.livejournal.com/212102.html Concerning Jymn Magon's surprise: To me; I think he believed at the time that there wasn't a presence of fans who liked the show because I think everyone told him that TaleSpin was disgraceful and that no one liked it. It refers back to my unnamed letter from the Five Years of Cloudkicking Address about TaleSpin being called gay. Of course; where have I heard that before? Every show in the new Disney of course. This is what frustrates me about Disney: The critics believe that expanding their horizons beyond what Walt did is noble. No longer becoming a one trick pony so to speak. That's all well and good; but Disney listened to them so much that they forgot that if you want to upstream the expanded audience; you need to upstream them to the products that made Disney, Disney. For their television division; TaleSpin was perfect because it fits Walt Disney almost to a T: Pathos, singing and dancing funny animals, good songs, decent animation and some actual substance that doesn't appear to be watered down by BS&P. And Disney whizzed it away because bashing Bugs Bunny was cool. Amazing. No wonder no one liked Michael Eisner; he didn't know what the product was and no matter how much effort the creators put into it; TaleSpin became filler. Kit can also teach us something else too. How to be an actual Disney character with a personality and some backbone to back it up. I never thought before 1994 that I would ever see Kit Cloudkicker as Disney's best child creation. After studying; I'm more convinced than ever that Disney really blew it here.

Greg I just read your epilogue and I think it's great you really do your research as well and I agree with the power of Molly's Question in the great song Home is where the heart is and I did'nt like Michael Eisner because of him cuting out Home is where the heart is for the TV show to me Home is where the heart is gave a great extra Story line to the show and it should have been keeped in the show bad move on Michael Eisner's part to me Michael Esiner is alot like No heart from the Nelvana version of Care Bears. I would like to end this by saying Disney really made some stupid moves in the past and hopefully they get some one to run the studio back to the way Walt ran it his vaules and what not that's all I have to say and Greg soory if I am steeling any of your thunder I just fell like Ranting my self sometimes.

Hi friends, I want to take the time and show my gratitude toward one the best characters to have ever been created; Kit Cloudkicker. When TaleSpin first came on television, I was going through some very personal issues. The future seemed dark and nothing was making me happy. Then one day I watched an episode of TS, and noticed a young character who was wise beyond his years, friendly and positive, and could laugh in the face of fear. He was Kit. Kit also loved his extreme sport, cloud-surfing. I had just taken up snowboarding (hence my name here) and Kit became a symbol of bravery, who made me try harder under any challenge. I even painted him on my snowboard! He really brought me out of my funk, and has been an important figure ever since. To give tribute, I even have a Kit tattoo on my arm to remind me that no matter how small or big, I can face my fears. Kit really is my hero. That's awesome! Can we see it?

I can remember back in Fall 1990 when TaleSpin first aired as part of The Disney Afternoon, when the full movie of the pilot episode started (before it went into a 4-part event without the uncut parts) I started to get a little board with the show but when Kit Cloudkicker made his appearance on the show I was like: "Whoa! Who's this character that appeared out of the blue!?" and when he first hitched a ride with Baloo and told him his name was Kit Cloudkicker, it made me like this show alot! plus, when I noticed that his voice played by that same child actor who did Dink, The Little Dinosaur (from 1989-1990) and the live-action show "Wake, Rattle & Roll" (before it was renamed "Jump, Rattle & Roll" on Disney Channel when we had no commercial breaks in that year until they did in 1996), but when I met R.J. Williams for the first time in 1990-1993 in person, I was like: "YOUR THE DUDE WHO PLAYS KIT CLOUDKICKER ON DISNEY"S TALESPIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" which it made me became best friends with to the end....

Nothing to say. For me the importance of Kit is that he's balanced personality that is rare for modern cartoons. He never falls to "over-cuteness" but at the same time doesn't look brutal or vulgar.

It makes me glad to hear that this character had/has such a positive influence on you. =) I've come across such characters myself, some on TaleSpin. It's nice to have a "friend" that motivates you to keep going, even if it's a fictional person. Still, if even fictional characters are able to help us throughout our difficult time, then more power to them.
Kit is an awesome character; I'm sure no one can deny that. I was really little when I used to watch the series on television. I used to think that Baloo kept calling him "kid," instead of Kit. XD

ITA with all of you. Looking back at the cartoons, it's amazing how sophisticated they were that the dynamics appealed not only to kids but to adults. So maybe I wasn't just a dork for still liking them in high school - LOL.
