One of the VERY main reasons Tale Spin was pulled from The DVD process (why we never got volume three) is because of the lawsuit held against the company by the family of Louis Prima (Voice of King Louie in the jungle book) Prima's family was never paid royalties for The Likeness of his character or the release of The Jungle Book on DVD. Ironically, even though he didn't provide the voice in tale spin. It was still his likeness and an impression of his voice was used. Disney and Prima's wife settled out of court on the promise that they could no longer use the king louie character or anybody resembling him or his voice. Which is why they put a Halt on the final DVD. So the only way the could go forward with a new comic is if they eliminated King Louie all together. (Also why the he wasn't in The Jungle Book 2) Interesting fact: On an episode of Disney's House of Mouse. There was character that was described as King Louie's brother, King Larry. So there's always a way they could use him. I REALLY don't think the lawsuit is a problem there. 1. We're talking about comics there. So there is no voice involved. I don't think the problem is on the character itself, it's on the voice. So, if Disney decided to make a DTV for Talespin, it COULD be an issue. Not for comics. 2. That didn't prevent from releasing the Talespin DVDs. Even though the lawsuit issue happened way before that (House of Mouse and Jungle Book 2 were before that) 3. The Talespin volume 3 DVD wasn't discontinued because of that. All the Disney Afternoon DVDs were discontinued at the same time, alltogether, probably because "they didn't sell enough". 4. A simple proof : the character still appears in the Disney parks / shows. I went to Disneyland Paris a month ago and there was a shows with Louie *singing* "I wanna be like you", and I think it wasn't the original voice. 5. I would like to find an official source on the whole issue, because I don't trust Wikipedia 100%. I'm not even sure how it was solved or if it's still a problem currently. This is a bit off topic to me...It doesn't prevent us from trying to reach them anyway. I could go on a rebuttal here but there's really no point. You can either do research and get the actual facts. Or you can go on jaded opinion. The choice is yours.

I'm Native, And I have no problem with the term "Honest Injun" In fact I've used the phrase as a joke with my friends countless times. I'd say something, They say "Are you serious" Then I'd cross my heart, hold up two fingers and say "honest injun" then we'd laugh.
But I don't care about political correctness anyway.
But if I did care I could tell you were the problem lays and in the year 2010 I still can't believe people can't see it.
It's the word "Injun" and no it's not because of how it's said. It's because our ancestors did not come from India therefore we are not Indian.
Call somebody from Texas a Yankee and he'll flip out on ya. But it's ok to name us after a country that's on the other side of the world?
But once again. I really don't care about being PC. I probably say and do stuff that offends people everyday just by being myself, Who am I to ask somebody else to stop what they are doing, or change the way they think? Sure, I'll voice my opinions on certain topics. But it doesn't change my life in anyway if other people don't share the same opinions.

you mean Lucas Films. And no Disney does not own any rights to it. George Lucas and Disney corp went into collaboration. Same with Dic. it is not owned by disney but they have made agreements to work together in order to produce some live action adaptations of some of Dic's works. This agreement was made in the mid 90s and since then half of the plans haven't come to fruition. They made Inspector Gadget, But there were also plans on live action Sailor Moon and Carmen Sandiego movies which never happened. I understand why you would think they are owned by Disney, But sometimes companies simply just work together. Look at who framed roger rabbit. They have characters represented by almost every reputable production company there was at the time. As far as Boom Studios goes. They actually acquired the license FROM disney, not the other way around. Read This. www.wolfstad.com/dcw/blog/2009/05/boom-studios-to-get-disney-license/It's been Almost a year since Boom Studios acquired the rights to everything Gemstone Publishing lost last year. And Okay But Boom is still working with Disney to do new comics and such. Kinda. Boom got the licence from Gemstone who got the Licence from Walt Disney’s Comics & Stories. The only input Disney has is "Yes we say it ok for you to use our intellectual property and we wont sue you for it" The Images are owned by Disney but the creative rights and writings belong to Boom. It's like if you drew a picture of Mickey Mouse and sold it. Disney could sue you for making money off of their intellectual property. It's the same thing Weird Al has to do when he uses musical beats and harmonies that were written somebody else. Acquiring the rights to something and acquiring the license to something are 2 very different things.

Wow! I knew they owned a lot but just wow Thanks for sharing Duke.
Yep. Think of any form of media and they have their hands in the pot in some form or another. Not to bad for a guy who used to pin pictures together in his garage.

MMPR back in the day was great. They show it on ABC Kids from noon to 1 EST every Saturday now. It was great, until the original five left, then it went downhill. I didn't mind when Jason, Zack and Trini left. I just didn't go for the style of the show after MMPR

So my nephew watches the Buena Vista cartoon Handy Manny. I was watching it with him and I thought to myself "That voice sounds familiar" and after a few minutes of trying to figure it out. I got it.

Great topic. That's a nice Pinocchio statuette there, but for that pretty of a penny I wouldn't take interest in buying it, but it's nice to view. And, Duke, you can talk about pretty much anything you'd like here, even if not Disney related, just post it on the General Board. I'm SO gonna take you up on that. ;D
